Too late to blog yesterday

My boys had another match yesterday against Gunderson. The JV team ended up losing again in 3, but this was a really bad lost. Their attitude was so negative. I’m hoping by the end of the season, I can change that.

As for the Varsity team, they won in 3. The first game was too close for comfort. They just made way to many mental mistakes. I believe in that game alone they had at least 6 missed serves. They finally pulled it together and took the second and third with easy. The third game they only scored 4 points.

By the time I got home, I was too tired to log in, hence the early blog today.

We only have practice today, so hopefully, I can get home and spend some quality time with Gary. One Tree Hill is on tonight, so it will be nice to just sit and veg to give my mind a break.

Here’s to hopefully a relaxing day and especially a nice relaxing evening.

Busy couple of days…

On Friday, my varsity boys lost to Mt View in 5. We won the first two matches 26-24; 26-24. And than we lost the next 3. They played a great game, but mentally started to lose it by making very stupid mistakes. As for the JV team, they did lose in 2, but they played great. Now, that was a good lose.

Then on Saturday, I had an Eclipse tournament in Salinas. We got to Salinas really early like normal and found out that the gym they had for us to use was not available yet to set up. By the time we finally got all the poles and nets set up we started around 9:30 instead 8:30. Because we had 4 courts, the pool play ended on time.

We won all of our pool play matches.

The first match was against Club VIP 15-1. Scores were 25-13; 25-6. This was an easy match for the girls. The second match was definitely alot more challenging. We played Newark Nets Ami 16-1. Scores were 25-8; 22-25; 15-8. We needed this win in order to place first in our pool play.

After pool play was bracket play. The brackets were set up for all first place; second place; third place. So, we ended up up facing all the first place teams. Included in our bracket was ALCiS 15-2 (Kim’s team); Endline Black 16-1; and Eclipse Black 16-1 (Raudy’s team).

Our first match was against the other Eclipse team. I knew eventually we would run into them, I just didn’t think it would be in the first tournament of our season. The games were very closely matches. Scores were 26-24; 23-25; 15-11. I told the girls that we basically have nothing to lose and everything to win. It was amazing how well they played together as a team.

Our second match was against ALCiS 15-2. This was the team that their coach Kim basically sad negative things about me in order to get my players to go with her to her new club. The bad thing is that because we beat Eclipse Black, they had to ref our game. Raudy definitely was calling things equally which was good. Once again, the girls stepped up as a team and played very well. The first game was 25-23. However, the girls fell apart in the 2nd game and the score showed it 13-25. Then with the third game, the girls came alive. We ended up winning 15-13. I couldn’t control my enjoyment that I started to cry I was so happy. It was more a personal win than anything else. In one weekend, my team beat our club’s top team and the club team that didn’t like us. It felt great.

So, the past couple of days have been busy with volleyball. Sunday was open gym from 12-3 and than a restful afternoon at home with Gary. We ended up going to Hollywood Video to rent some movies. We walked out with purchasing 5 movies for our collection and renting 5 to watch. As soon as we’re done watching everything, I’ll write up my reviews.

So, until another day. Have a good one.

Friday is almost here…

I’m so happy that tomorrow is Friday. Not just because it’s Friday, but I don’t have to work tomorrow. I have to be the good daughter and spend time with my mom, but hopefully taking a little time off will give me strength to keep going.

I actually had a very productive day at work today. More productive than normal. I tend to do more research and monitoring of my grants than getting the little things done. I made the decision that I was going to finally take care of the little things just so I can mark things off my list. It felt good.

One of the things that I’ve been wanting to do was become a member of the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association). This is the association that volleyball coaches join to gain knowledge about coaching and volleyball in general. One of my goals is to become a better coach, so I’m glad that I finally just did it.

Today we only had a JV and Eclipse practice. I think by cancelling the Varsity practice allow me to concentrate on just Eclipse and Jack to work with the JV. By having one court in the middle open made the boys concentrate more on what was going on. Towards the end of practice, we scrimmaged each other. It was great to see the boys improve. As for the girls, they weren’t playing like a team, so it will be interesting to see how they do this weekend.

We also found out today that for our tournament this weekend, we’ll be heading to Salinas. The scary part is that Gary mentioned that in the news recently Salinas had a very high crime rate. So, I’m a little worried about my car in the parking lot. I know that’s a bad thing to think about it, but I rather be safe than sorry. I’m going to make sure that I remove everything of value. I’m also thinking of removing my car regisration and just leave it in my backpack where my wallet is. This way if they take the car, they at least won’t know where I live.

So, tomorrow I’m with Mom all day. Wish me luck 🙂

It’s only Wednesday

I can’t believe that it’s only Wedensday. This is a slow week. I wish it was already Friday.

So I weighed in today and weighed the same as the last 3 weeks. I so need to get my butt in gear and just so exercising. I’m paying more attention to what I’m eating, so it’s the exercise that will help me. The sad part is that I just need to get my butt off the chair and just do it.

My boys played our first season match today. JV lost in 2 and varsity in 3. I can’t remember the JV scores, but Varsity was 16-25; 9-25; 18-25. I wish they would just step it up and play the game they know how to play. I believe that would be a great game to watch. Our next match is on Friday against Mountain View. Hopefully, they are mentally ready.

Tomorrow, I’m only having practice for the JV team and my Eclipse team. It’s too hard to coach 2 different teams at the same time. Plus, it’s not fair to Eclipse. Speaking of Eclipse, they changed our tournament location for Saturday. Apparently, Leland isn’t available anymore. We’re just waiting to see where we go now. As of tonight, we still don’t have a location yet.

I found out today that Mom is having oral surgery again on Friday. So, I’ll be doing the babysitting thing again. Gary was thinking of also taking Friday off, so I was thinking that I’ll take care of Mom and than come home and spend some time with him before my match at Mountain View.

Since I’m not going to work on Friday, I guess tomorrow is my Friday. Thank God. I just want this week to finally end.

So, here’s to hopefully a nice relaxing evening.

Our first lost of the season

I should have known the way we practice yesterday that tonight’s game was going to be bad. At practice yesterday, we had to set up the gym to make sure that we had everything for the game. We only had the gym 4:15-5:30, so having a full practice wasn’t going to happen. I basically had both teams scrimmage each other. And the way the varsity team played, should have warned me about tonight.

Tonight’s match aganist Gilroy was a bit challenging. The boys didn’t really play to their best ability. I believe it was all mental. Because the girl’s basketball team was playing their State game in the main gym, I think they were more interested in ending the match just so they could get over there to watch them.

Tomorrow is our first season game against Homestead. Homestead is ranked #1 for both Varsity and JV. So, if we can take both teams to the limit, I think the word will get out that Wilcox is a team to watch out for this season.

As for my day at work, it was very uneventful. It’s amazing when you put your mind to getting something accomplished, you can actually get it done. I’ve had one thing on my list to do since January and I just kept doing other things. I finally told myself that no matter what, I was going to process the honoriarum for Jennifer I for her work she did back in September. I know that’s sad that I put it off forever. I’m hoping that tomorrow, I can have that same mental game and just put my mind to it and get the little things accomplished so I can start to cross things off my list.

To add fuel to my fire, after our game, I can home with a massive headache. I have to get my eyes checked because they tend to burn now more than ever. Add that to my headache, and I’m not good company tonight. Luckily, Gary is very understanding.

I hope tomorrow night is better not only for me, but for everything in general.

March 2

So day two of my March goal.

Kimo stayed the night last night. He officially told us that him and Raelene broke up. In fact, as of Saturday morning, she already moved out her furiture. Kimo already told her that he doesn’t carry what she takes as long as she respects his personal stuff. My consern is really just Haku. Haku is totally Kimo’s dog. When he told Raelene that she needs to do what she needs to do related to the animals, I hope she doesn’t do anything stupid. It looks like Kimo might be moving out to my Aunty Bertha’s mother in law’s home that’s been vacant for the past 2 years. Its a good thing that my mom stays in touch with everyone.

This morning we had our Eclipse practice from 9:30-12. We had a normal practice and than a scrimmage with a bunch of people for an hour. We lost 3 games, but the last game was a good lost because it forced the girls to work together as teammates. I hope this mental challenge actually works for us on Saturday which is our first Area League at Leland High School.

After practice, Gary and I went grocery shopping and spent about $200 on food. My plan is to not have to go shopping for hopefully at least 2 weeks. I know that’s sad, but with my schedule, I feel better knowing that Gary will have food when I’m not home.

So, that’s about it for today. Nothing but a relaxing day.

Tonight I watch the Big Give which is Oprah’s new show. It actually is pretty good. I like the concept and of course it made me cry alot. It’s right after Extreme Home Makeover, which is my favorite Sunday show, so I should remember that it’s on.

Tomorrow should be the start of an interesting week.

March Goals

So, today is the first day of March and the first day of my mission to get myself to ‘stay motivated’. I want to make sure that I try to follow my weight watchers program better by actually writing down everything that I eat. I also want to start journaling more on my blog. This way, I can always look back and see what I’ve been doing on a certain day.

So today, Gary and I spent the day together. We started off this morning by going to the Flea Market. It’s weird how we live so close to it and never really visit it. We heard that the people that own the Flea Market or at least the land is planning on either selling the entire area or a section of it. Because of this rumor, we decided that we better visit it before it goes away. So, yes the typical scrapbooker in me took my camera and just took different shots. It’s amazing what you can find there.

When we were at the Flea Market, Kimo called me to ask if he can spend the night so he can go to practice tomorrow morning. He also informed me that him and Raylene are having issues again. I’m not completely sure what’s going on, but hopefully once he arrives he’ll be able to fill in the gaps.

After the Flea Market, Gary then took me up to Vacaville to go to their outlets. I actually wanted to go to the Jelly Belly outlet to pick up more flops for work. We ended up warlking around. They don’t have any real stores that we don’t have down here or in Gilroy. They do have the Jelly Belly store, so just that store alone is worth the drive.

Tonight, I found out that Wilcox’s girl’s basketball team won the Division II CCS Championship against Mitty High School. I’m so happy for them, but frustrated at the same time. Now, our gym schedule for next week is going to be that much more challenging. We have a match on Tuesday against Gilroy High School. Because the basketball team also has a game that same day at Wilcox, are game is moved to the small gym. I haven’t had a game in there in over 6 years. I know it can be done, as long as we can get the slots opened for the poles. Otherwise, it’s going to totally such for not only the parents because there’s no place to sit, but for the players because of the lack of room for them to move and serve. I guess we’ll see what happens.

So far, my Varsity team is 2-0. We beat Cupertino and King’s Acadmeny in 3 games each. Next week we start our actual season with Homestead and Mt. View. It’s a good thing that we face the 2 top teams up front. I’m hoping that we can take both of them to 5 games just to prove that we are a team to watch out for. It felt great the other day when Matt Hoffman, the Homestead coach, called me to ask if we’re a team to watch out for this year? My response was as long as the guys can stay focused, I believe we’re the underdog team that no one is expecting to do well.

So, that’s the quick summary for today. Hopefully, this is a start of a good March.
