Leaving on vacation for 10 days

Gary and I are leaving for a much needed vacation for 10 days.  Our first couple of nights, we’re planning on going to Laughlin, Nevada and staying at a resort called Avi.  It has it’s own lagoon right off of the Clorardo River.  Even though it’s supposed to be really hot, I’m hoping that it will be very relaxing.

After that stop over, we’re going to go visit the Grand Canyon for a couple of days.  It’s been about 14 years since the last time Gary and I went there.  The positive this time around is that I’m going to take more pictures of the both of us instead of just having one.  I’m actualling bringing my tripod, so I’ll be all set.

The last of our trip will be in Vegas.  We’re going to be staying at the Red Rock Resort and Casino. We stopped off at this place during our previous vacation and thought the place was great.  I’m so looking forward to just relaxing and doing nothing but enjoying the sun and spending quality time with Gary.

So, until we get back and I can post vacation pictures, I hope everyone has a good week.

Movie Reviews

So, in my previous post, I mentioned that Gary and I went to the movies on 4th of July.  Prior to that day, we also went to the drive-ins to see Kung Fu Panda and Iron Man.  So, this entry will be my thoughts on all of the movies that I’ve seen lately.

Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda

This was such a cute movie. Definitely one to add to our collection. It had funny lines at just the right moment. I wasn’t expecting much, but with Jack Black as the lead panda, I knew it had to be some what funny.

Iron Man

Iron Man

Another movie that I’m planning on adding.  I really like these type of action movies.  I can’t wait until the next movie comes out. I really appreciate the background that this movie gives to the character especially since I wasn’t aware of most of it because I didn’t follow the comic book.

I saw this movie with my volleyball team. I didn’t care too much about it. I’m not sure if it was the acting or what.  It did have some good scenes, but I don’t think I’ll be adding this one to my collection.

For this movie, I really liked the first half.  The second half is something totally different.  I didn’t like the story line at all.  I think they could have done something totally different.  This would be a toss up if I’m going to add it or not.  Maybe if I can find it for under $10 I’ll purchase it, but it’s definitely not worth anything over $20.

You can’t mess with the Zohan

When I saw the commericals for this movie, I thought it would be a funny one.  I was okay with it until it started having Adam doing it with the old ladies.  It totallly lost me after that one.  I’m sure Gary can give a better review because he watched the entire thing where I actually feel asleep during some of it.

So, that’s my two cents on our movies.  I know not much, but I don’t want to give anything away.

Until the next time…

I’m alive…

I know it’s been like forever since I last updated everyone on what’s been going on with me.  So, hopefully, I can do one massive update of the highlights.

I finished my girl’s season the first weekend of June.  We ended up finishing with 477 out of 500 points possible. This put us in 7th place out of all the area teams.  This was a great bunch of girls.  We had our after the season party at one of the player’s houses on June 20.  I ended up getting a gift certificate for $100 for Michael’s.  This was an awesome gift.  In the past, my club teams have given me gift certificates for a spa session, but I end up never using it so it becomes a waste of money.  This is the first time, when I used up the gift certificate within the same weekend.

On June 26, I started my open gyms for my high school girls at Wilcox.  The turn out has been pretty good so far.  This upcoming season is going to be a challenge because of players not being available due to health or grade issues.  So, we’ll see what happens.

As for me, I’m actually playing now on Tuesdays (co-ed) and Thursdays (woman) leagues.  It’s weird to actually be playing instead of coaching.  The very first week, I already had issues with the referring because I’m so used to sets being called and nothing was done.  So, I’m trying to get my mind set on just worrying about playing.  We’ll see what happens at the end.  I’m sure both teams are going to be grateful that I’m not going to be coming back.

Nothing much to report on because everything is still the same. I was reminded recently that I am on a fixed term position, so I’ll have to update my resume soon, just in case.  One of my co-workers did suggest that I work with my boss to change my positon to an actual staff position instead of a fixed term.  So, this is one of the many projects I’m going to think about doing.

My girlfriend, Susan K. got married on 4th of July in Vegas.  We couldn’t go to the actual wedding, however, I did get to participate through the webcast.  It was great.  She looked so pretty.  And the guy that was doing the ceremony was funny.  He told all kinds of jokes. I cried just like I would have if I was there.  I’m so happy for her.

Tina and I took Susan to a spa last week Friday for Susan’s bridal shower.  It was awesome. This was the first time that I got an actual massage.  The lady told me that I was hard as a rock, so she had to really dig deal to get my muscles to relax.  But, now I’m addict so I want to go back for another massage and a facial.

I’m still doing my homework for CKU.  I originally wanted to get everything done before we leave on vacation, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen unless I get my butt in gear.  I don’t have a lot left, but enough to raise the stress level a bit.

I do have a secret sister that I’ve been communicating with for CKU. She lives in Colorado. Her birthday is July 15, so I need to figure out a way to send her a box of goodies.  So far, she’s liking the goodies that I’ve been sending, so I’m excited.  I’m thinking if I can send the box from Nevada, that would totally confuse her.

Home Life

Gary and I went to Reno on June 6-8 for his annual SP Bowling tournament.  On June 6, we stopped off in Tahoe to celebrate Malina’s 16th birthday with my family.  I can’t believe that she’s 16 already.  Time definitely flies by when you least expect it.

At Gary’s tournament, his double partner, Sean, bowled a perfect game (300) and a 800 series.  It was great. I believe because of these high scores, they were able to make some money from the tournament.

We actually leave for our vacation to Laughlin and Vegas on Saturday. We had my in-laws over last night for dinner to show them how to work the alarm system on the house. The last time they watched the cats for us, we didn’t have the alarym, so now it’s a little more work for them just to watch the cats.

This past 4th of July weekend was an expensive one for us too. Our water heater ended up having a leak, so we had to call out a plumber to replace the entire thing. It turns out that the water heater was over 20 years old, so it was a positive that we got it replaced. I won’t say how much it actually costs, but now it doesn’t look like I’m going to be a new car any time soon. 🙂 I was originally planning on going to Maureen’s to spend the holiday with her and the kids, but my attitude was bad, so I decided to stay home and torture Gary instead. To brighten my spirts, Gary ended up taking me to the drive-ins.  We saw Hancock with Will Smith and Zohan with Adam Sandler.  I’ll type up my review comments in another blog.

I think that’s it for now. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. As for me, I’m on the official count down now.
