Champions!!!!

This past weekend it was a family event at Campbell Community Center.  Kimo, Jackie, Malina and myself played in a volleyball tournament.  Our other teammates where guys that Kimo and Jackie normally play with in Sac.  Their names where Casey and Memo.

We started the day very slow. This was the first time all 6 of us has played together and you could tell. We ended up losing the first match.  By the 2 match, we figured out what was going on and ended up either spliting against the other teams or beating them twice.  We finished pool play what we thought was first place by 1 point.  After the tournament director looked at the scores again, she realized that she was wrong, so we ended up in 2nd in pool play instead.  This basically meant we had to play another match before the championship.

We played that semi-final round with determination. The other team who we actually lost to in our first match of the day figured they could beat us again.  I don’t think they realized we figured out where our mistakes were and fixed them.  We beat them very easily to get to the championship round.

Once again, we were determined.  We did make some mistakes, but we kept them to a minimum compared to other matches.  We beat this team in 2.  So, we started the day off bad, but finished on top.  My calf actually held up until the very last game of the last match when it finally said, no more.  I’m glad the match was almost over by then because I’m not sure how much more I could take.

So, today, everyone is feeling it. Luckily for me, it’s really only my right leg (thigh and calf) that’s hurting.  I’m hoping it will get better soon because I actually like to walk without pain.  Walking up and down stairs is a challenge right now.  So, at work, walking and stairs are going to be a challenge.

So, here’s a picture of the champions.

My team…

This has been a very interesting season for me. We started off with 12 players and by the first week, we were down to 10. It’s been a challenge especially when it comes to injuries and/or sickness. I’m just hoping by keeping the team as small as it is has brought them closer together. I want them to remember that its more than just about wins and loses. Its about the relationships that you build. I actually have a great bunch of girls this season. I just hope they all decide to come back again next year.
