Why are people so special?

Today I had to do a review with one of my new admins. I thought I was mentally prepared. I had written notes on what I wanted to discuss with her and everything. But once I started the meeting, nothing came out like I wanted it too. I really hate being rude or mean to people especially when I’m trying to give them feedback on their job. I like to sugar coat things it’s just my management style. It’s been working with other admins, so I thought it would work with her. But I was completely wrong. After the meeting, I totally felt like I didn’t get my point across. Instead, I felt like I was just given my 30 day notice.

I figured I would have to get my point across in my email, so I asked for assistance in writing it up from my HR friends to make sure it made sense. I finally got approval from the faculty member and then I sent it out when I got home from practice. I guess we’ll see what happens tomorrow morning when she reads it. I’m guessing that she’s going to be surprised, but oh well. I have to keep reminding myself that she works for me. I don’t work for her.

Practice wasn’t what I expected. We had pictures today so that took the first 30 minutes. So, when we finally got started, I wanted to focus on defensive coverage. But one of the JV players had to be stupid so I had to stop by practice and make a point that he’s not all that and then some. We don’t have a gym tomorrow because of basketball, so only JV will be practicing. I hope they start to show Rebbeca some respect. The only positive is that Mom went to Taco Bell for me for dinner.

I hope tomorrow is better than today. So, we’ll see what happens.

10 for 10 Goals

I came up with my list for 2010. Majority of goals is focused on my crafts. I use my crafts as my outlet from the every day life. Let’s see if I can accomplish some of these things this year.

1. Complete 10 projects. These can be new ones I haven’t started yet or complete the ones I have started that I just need to add journaling or pictures. Believe me, I have so many kits that I’ve purchased over the years. This goal can be accomplished, if I just sit down to do it.

2. Learn Photoshop and WordPress. I should probably call this goal learning technology. Photoshop is somewhat easy to use. My SIL showed me the basics and it looks easy enough, but when I go back to do it myself, forget it. As for WordPress, this is be blogging software. I seriously need to learn how to use it. I would love to do different things with my blog, but I just don’t know how to do it.

3. 10 Digital Scrapbook Pages. I’m forcing myself to learn photoshop so I can do different things including scrapbook pages. I can accomplish 2 goals by doing 1. So we’ll see what happens.

4. Organize photos. I seriously need to get my photos organized that are currently on my harddrive. Right now, they are listed only by dates. I have to go into Kodak Easy Share Software to find the picture I want to figure out what date it falls under. So, I learned something from Maureen the other night. To use catagories instead of just dates. Since I have about 6 years worth of pictures, this will be a huge process. Baby steps…

5. Learn how to use the manual feature on my camera. Since it’s going to be awhile until I can afford to purchase my dream camera, I figured I better learn at least the basics of photography again. This is where my easy share camera is going to help me. If I can just learn how to use it in manual mode, I’ll learn the basics of how things work in general. So, I’ll be ready to take the huge step when the time comes.

6. Take 10 Photo Challenges. I learned recently that there are a ton of photo challenges out there that I can participate in. By learning to use my camera, I can get feedback from other people to become a better photographer.

7. Walk to 10 new locations. I figured I can get my body used to walking at least a mile 10 times this year. I need to take baby steps remember. =) We live in an area that I can easily just pick one location and walk to it. Plug in my iPod and go. It has to be at least a total of a mile. Plus, I can bring my camera too and take pictures along the way.

8. 10 sick days. Last year, was a bad year for me at work. I was sick so often that I really believe my boss was going to fire me. The crazy part is that I believe they really weren’t official sick days. More like, I rather not be at work days. So, this year, I want to challenge myself to only stay home when I’m really sick. Now, granted, there are times when I have to be at home to take care of something, but I’m hoping I can work from home those days so they don’t count. I’m talking about the days when I wake up and say forget it.

9. Blog about the everyday life. I read other people’s blogs about their everyday lives. It’s great because they now have a journal of the everyday to look back on. I recently found my journal from last year and read it. It was great remembering what happen a year ago.

10. Save $100 a month. If we start to save at least $100 a month we can have a very nice vacation next year. So, I’m hoping to just transfer that money into our savings account so we’ll have at least $1200 to use. Then again, maybe I should just withdraw the money and put it in a box at home. This way, I know it won’t be used.

So, that’s it for 2010. I know everything can be achieved. It’s a matter of just doing it.

A very sad moment in our life…

On June 30, Neo passed away.  We took him to the vet and he passed away on their table. We were there to say good-bye, but it didn’t make it any easier.

Looking back on the past month, he was acting a little different when he was outside or playing.  He needed to take more breaks.   I’m just grateful that I was at home with him. He’s going to be truly missed. The house doesn’t feel the same without seeing him sitting at his window or laying down on his pad in the living room.  I’ve cried so much, that I don’t think I have any more tears.  Then, I start to think about him, and the tears start up again. It’s just so painful right now. I know that he’s not suffering anymore, but that doesn’t make my suffering any easier. I miss him so much. I’m so glad that he found us. I’m so glad that I have a husband that allowed me to treat Neo like a part of the family and not care how much it costs to keep Neo on his meds.

I’m going to miss you Neo more than you know. Thank you for being a wonderful and loving family member.

Yesterday was Gary’s 45th birthday. Because he was on-call, we couldn’t really do anything special. We already knew on Friday that he was going to have a call between 4pm-6pm.  Apparently, some lady knew she locked her keys in her house. The sad part was she was on vacation in the East Coast. So, we basically had a low-key day.

I had Eclipse practice 10-12, so I picked up Panda Express for Gary’s lunch. When I got home, we opened presents. I kept my presents under $50, which is a good thing for me. I really wanted to purchase his bowling ball, but that’s something I can’t really do without him. So, now I’m up to 2 bowling balls I owe him, one from Christmas and now his birthday. If he keeps this up, he’ll have at least 4 new balls by the end of this year.

I ended up picking up a dress shirt for him.

I also picked up a new pair of boxers: Marvel Comic Characters.

Gary Boxers

And last was a box full of gum and M&Ms.

Happy Birthday Babe!! I love you. I hope you had a great day.

Our hospital visit…

On March 5, I received a call from mom asking to come see her because she wasn’t feel well. She wanted me to take her to the hospital. So, I left work early to go to her house. When I got there, she was in bed looking like death. We called the advice nurse for Kaiser to figure out what to do. Since I couldn’t carry her, we decided to call an ambulance. About an hour later, we were on our way to Kaiser emergency room.

We were in less than 20 minutes when Roy showed up, which was good. I’m sure Mom was happy that he was there. About an hour or two later, the doctor finally showed up to exam her. It turns out that she has a very bad case of veritgo. So, the doctor wants to run some additional tests to make sure that there are no other issues with her. All of the tests came back negative.

So, the scrapbooker in me decided it was time to start taking more pictures. The picture above was taken when we first was in the hospital. I took this picture of Roy and decided that the blank wall made it look like a mug shoot.

After she was given her actual meds for her vertigo, Roy was being really loving.

Roy & Mom

I already knew I wanted to get a picture of Mom & I, so I was going to hand Roy my camera. Then I realized he might not get the picture I had in mind. So, instead I did the famous self portrait:

Mom & Me

When I saw this picture, I could not stop laughing. This is so classic. Mom is passed out because of the drugs and I’m taking pictures smiling. Even today, I totally laugh when I see it. I’m such a loving daughter. I’m just lucky that my mom doesn’t carry a camera in her purse. Otherwise, I’m sure she would gladly get me back if I’m ever in the emergency room again.

Overall, Mom is doing better. She’s still on some meds, but she did a follow up with her actual doctor this past week. She said that she probably had some type of virus that brought on the ear infection that caused the vertigo. As long as she takes it easy, she’ll be okay.

And just to make sure that everyone knows, this wasn’t the first time my mom called me to take her to the doctor. Back in January, she was complaining about a toothache. So, she wanted to me leave work early and take her to see the dentist. I figured since I had to document my day, why not utilize this perfect opportunity to take my picture of the day.

Yes, I know, I’m a very loving daughter.

Mt Dew Code Red

Moutain Dew Code Red – Kalae got me on this soda a long time ago. I can easily drink a can just like water. When I started Weight Watchers awhile ago, I decided that I should drink diet soda. I really dislike Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke, so I thought why not stick with what I know I really like. Diet Mt Dew Code Red does have that diet after taste like other diet drinks, but this just tastes better to me.

Because I’ve been waking up early to start my day, I’m finding that having one of these a day helps me get through it. So, if anyone wants to try a diet soda, try this one. WARNING: drink it with ice or cold.

Don’t get me work, I also have my Fiber One Pop Tart too.  So, at least I’m getting in some type of food besides just the caffeine.
