It’s only Wednesday

I can’t believe that it’s only Wedensday. This is a slow week. I wish it was already Friday.

So I weighed in today and weighed the same as the last 3 weeks. I so need to get my butt in gear and just so exercising. I’m paying more attention to what I’m eating, so it’s the exercise that will help me. The sad part is that I just need to get my butt off the chair and just do it.

My boys played our first season match today. JV lost in 2 and varsity in 3. I can’t remember the JV scores, but Varsity was 16-25; 9-25; 18-25. I wish they would just step it up and play the game they know how to play. I believe that would be a great game to watch. Our next match is on Friday against Mountain View. Hopefully, they are mentally ready.

Tomorrow, I’m only having practice for the JV team and my Eclipse team. It’s too hard to coach 2 different teams at the same time. Plus, it’s not fair to Eclipse. Speaking of Eclipse, they changed our tournament location for Saturday. Apparently, Leland isn’t available anymore. We’re just waiting to see where we go now. As of tonight, we still don’t have a location yet.

I found out today that Mom is having oral surgery again on Friday. So, I’ll be doing the babysitting thing again. Gary was thinking of also taking Friday off, so I was thinking that I’ll take care of Mom and than come home and spend some time with him before my match at Mountain View.

Since I’m not going to work on Friday, I guess tomorrow is my Friday. Thank God. I just want this week to finally end.

So, here’s to hopefully a nice relaxing evening.

Our first lost of the season

I should have known the way we practice yesterday that tonight’s game was going to be bad. At practice yesterday, we had to set up the gym to make sure that we had everything for the game. We only had the gym 4:15-5:30, so having a full practice wasn’t going to happen. I basically had both teams scrimmage each other. And the way the varsity team played, should have warned me about tonight.

Tonight’s match aganist Gilroy was a bit challenging. The boys didn’t really play to their best ability. I believe it was all mental. Because the girl’s basketball team was playing their State game in the main gym, I think they were more interested in ending the match just so they could get over there to watch them.

Tomorrow is our first season game against Homestead. Homestead is ranked #1 for both Varsity and JV. So, if we can take both teams to the limit, I think the word will get out that Wilcox is a team to watch out for this season.

As for my day at work, it was very uneventful. It’s amazing when you put your mind to getting something accomplished, you can actually get it done. I’ve had one thing on my list to do since January and I just kept doing other things. I finally told myself that no matter what, I was going to process the honoriarum for Jennifer I for her work she did back in September. I know that’s sad that I put it off forever. I’m hoping that tomorrow, I can have that same mental game and just put my mind to it and get the little things accomplished so I can start to cross things off my list.

To add fuel to my fire, after our game, I can home with a massive headache. I have to get my eyes checked because they tend to burn now more than ever. Add that to my headache, and I’m not good company tonight. Luckily, Gary is very understanding.

I hope tomorrow night is better not only for me, but for everything in general.

March 2

So day two of my March goal.

Kimo stayed the night last night. He officially told us that him and Raelene broke up. In fact, as of Saturday morning, she already moved out her furiture. Kimo already told her that he doesn’t carry what she takes as long as she respects his personal stuff. My consern is really just Haku. Haku is totally Kimo’s dog. When he told Raelene that she needs to do what she needs to do related to the animals, I hope she doesn’t do anything stupid. It looks like Kimo might be moving out to my Aunty Bertha’s mother in law’s home that’s been vacant for the past 2 years. Its a good thing that my mom stays in touch with everyone.

This morning we had our Eclipse practice from 9:30-12. We had a normal practice and than a scrimmage with a bunch of people for an hour. We lost 3 games, but the last game was a good lost because it forced the girls to work together as teammates. I hope this mental challenge actually works for us on Saturday which is our first Area League at Leland High School.

After practice, Gary and I went grocery shopping and spent about $200 on food. My plan is to not have to go shopping for hopefully at least 2 weeks. I know that’s sad, but with my schedule, I feel better knowing that Gary will have food when I’m not home.

So, that’s about it for today. Nothing but a relaxing day.

Tonight I watch the Big Give which is Oprah’s new show. It actually is pretty good. I like the concept and of course it made me cry alot. It’s right after Extreme Home Makeover, which is my favorite Sunday show, so I should remember that it’s on.

Tomorrow should be the start of an interesting week.

March Goals

So, today is the first day of March and the first day of my mission to get myself to ‘stay motivated’. I want to make sure that I try to follow my weight watchers program better by actually writing down everything that I eat. I also want to start journaling more on my blog. This way, I can always look back and see what I’ve been doing on a certain day.

So today, Gary and I spent the day together. We started off this morning by going to the Flea Market. It’s weird how we live so close to it and never really visit it. We heard that the people that own the Flea Market or at least the land is planning on either selling the entire area or a section of it. Because of this rumor, we decided that we better visit it before it goes away. So, yes the typical scrapbooker in me took my camera and just took different shots. It’s amazing what you can find there.

When we were at the Flea Market, Kimo called me to ask if he can spend the night so he can go to practice tomorrow morning. He also informed me that him and Raylene are having issues again. I’m not completely sure what’s going on, but hopefully once he arrives he’ll be able to fill in the gaps.

After the Flea Market, Gary then took me up to Vacaville to go to their outlets. I actually wanted to go to the Jelly Belly outlet to pick up more flops for work. We ended up warlking around. They don’t have any real stores that we don’t have down here or in Gilroy. They do have the Jelly Belly store, so just that store alone is worth the drive.

Tonight, I found out that Wilcox’s girl’s basketball team won the Division II CCS Championship against Mitty High School. I’m so happy for them, but frustrated at the same time. Now, our gym schedule for next week is going to be that much more challenging. We have a match on Tuesday against Gilroy High School. Because the basketball team also has a game that same day at Wilcox, are game is moved to the small gym. I haven’t had a game in there in over 6 years. I know it can be done, as long as we can get the slots opened for the poles. Otherwise, it’s going to totally such for not only the parents because there’s no place to sit, but for the players because of the lack of room for them to move and serve. I guess we’ll see what happens.

So far, my Varsity team is 2-0. We beat Cupertino and King’s Acadmeny in 3 games each. Next week we start our actual season with Homestead and Mt. View. It’s a good thing that we face the 2 top teams up front. I’m hoping that we can take both of them to 5 games just to prove that we are a team to watch out for. It felt great the other day when Matt Hoffman, the Homestead coach, called me to ask if we’re a team to watch out for this year? My response was as long as the guys can stay focused, I believe we’re the underdog team that no one is expecting to do well.

So, that’s the quick summary for today. Hopefully, this is a start of a good March.

Recap of 2008 so far…

I can’t believe I haven’t posted since January 1. I really thought I would get back into writing down my thoughts. I guess every day life gets in the way of things.

So, what have I been up to so far this year:

Volleyball
I’ve officially started coaching both boy’s high school team and girl’s club team. We’ve already had a couple of tournaments for the girls this year. My official comment about the girls is that if we could just keep the mental mistakes to a minimum, we’re going to be awesome. For what ever reason, they look like deers in headlights when we play our first match at each tournament. And than towards the end of the day when you would expect them to play terrible because they are too tired, they play awesome.

As for the boys, they are a totally differnt type of breed. We haven’t had a game yet. Our first game is on the 26th of February which is next week. I don’t have cuts because we don’t have that much interest in the sport, so we need to try to get more guys to start coming out. The bad part is some of the guys are still in other sports, so we haven’t had any time to work with them to see how good or bad they are. Hopefully I’ll be able to meet some of these newbies sooner than later. On the positive side, I did find a part time JV coach. His name is Jason. He just moved to Mt View with his wife and was looking to get back into coaching again. So, this was a perfect opportunity for him and me. Now, hopefully, I can just worry about the varsity team instead of both during practices.

On the negative side, I’ve had to deal with my first sexual harrassment issue. Apparently, one of the players got his shorts pulled down during one of my practices. The bad part about it was no one saw it happen including all of the boys. So, I had to lay down the law that if it happens again, I’ll close down the program. So, as luck would have it, apparently, that same kid got his butt touched during one of the games and didn’t like it. It’s not what it seems. If you know or watch guys playing sports, they get their butts slapped all the time. Apparently, this was one of those times. Now I have to pull this player aside and tell him that it’s just part of the game. There really wasn’t any sexual harrassment involved. And he should just tell the guys himself not to touch him there. I have a feeling if I say anything, it’s only going to cause more issues with this kid. This time around, I’m going to have my AD deal with the psyho mom and her son. They both scary me to the point that I don’t like to be alone with either one of them because I’m not sure what could or would happen.

Work
Work hasn’t changed much except I don’t have a direct supervisor anymore. My original supervisor changed Universities, so now I’m working for a faculty member. I’m still trying to figure out how to make things work. So, hopefully, I will eventually get the hang of everything.

Home Life
Gary and I celebrated Valentine’s Day last week at home watching a movie from On Demand and eating Chili’s. I had to coach, so going out when everyone else was out, was not an option. We actually did this last year and it worked out great. Just being at home makes all of the issues of the world go away. For Valentine’s Day, he did give me a dozen roses again. I’ll post a picture later when I finally get a chance to download them to Flikr.

Scrapbooking
Since January, I’ve scrapbooked about 15 pages. Now, this is a miracle for me especially since those 15 pages were done in January only and now we’re in February and my desk has the same project on it from the middle of January. I’m starting to go through my magazines again to get inspired. Scrapbooking is such a relaxing craft for me, that I need to start doing it more especially during this crazy time of year for me.

Weight Watchers
So, I joined up for another 17 weeks. The sad part is I’m only 5 pounds lighter than I was from this time last year. I really do need to get myself back in the positive mind set that I can do this giant task of losing weight. I saw a recent volleyball picture of myself and I can’t believe how big I looked. Then again, I was wearing layers of clothes because it was so cold at the tournament. I would love to get to my 10% by July. This way, if Gary and I go on vacation some where, hopefully, I can see the difference.

Gary is still maintaining his 144.4 weight. I’m so jealous. I wish I could have his head strong attitude.

Well, that’s it in a nut shell. I’m hoping I can keep up with this blog so I can have something to look back on to see how I’ve changed or not.

So, here’s to the everyday thing called life.

My first practice was today

I had my first practice for club today. After finally seeing all the girls as one team today, I really believe we are going to have a strong team this year. Practice was 3 hours from 12-3. The first hour was conditioning and a little ball control drills. For the last 30 minutes, we actually did team work stuff. I’m looking forward to this season.

On the other courts was the 18s team and then the boy’s. For the boys, I was actually surprised how many players showed up. For the future open gyms, I’m going to have to try to spend some time with them. If it wasn’t for Rebbeca, it would have been stressful.

My first club practice & a day in SF

So, tomorrow is my first club practice. I’m excited, but nervous. I really want to become a better coach. I want to be able to teach my players how to be a better player along with a better person. The plan is to meet everyone along with their parents tomorrow. So, tonight, I need to plan out my practice so it at least it appears that I know what I’m doing. 🙂

Today Gary and I went up to the City to walk around and enjoy the decorations. We ended up spending the entire day there and didn’t spend a lot of money. I did get a chance to finally see the 6 houses lined up with the City in the background. These houses can be seen on Full House along with some other SF shows. I was so excited to finally get to see them. I’m glad that Gary actually remembered where they were located.

Speaking of Gary, I’m so lucky to have him. Even though we do have our ‘special’ moments when we are frustrated with each other, all of the other time is wonderful. Today’s activities was fun. Besides taking pictures of the Christmas tree at Pier 39, I really wanted to take a picture of the tree at Union Square as well. Because of the timing (it gets darker earlier now), I wasn’t sure if we could be able to go to Union Square via taxi so I told Gary that we can just drive by it and I’ll take my picture from the car window. Instead, Gary decided that we would have more than enough time so we went to Union Square just so I can take my picture. 🙂 Once we got there, I wanted to go to Chinatown to get pastries. So, we ended up walking the blocks and got my pastries. Everything I wanted to do today up in the City, we did. It was awesome. I love these days.

Oh, before I forget, if you watched Journeyman this past week, you will notice that the house is right next door to the Charmed house. I knew when I saw it, that it looked familiar. I know what a side note, but I thought I should put it down so I don’t forget. 🙂

Back to Work…

So, today is my final day of vacation. This week went by fast. I did accomplish a lot of things on my list for this past week, the major thing being my holiday cards. They are all mailed out as of Thursday. I also finally got my scrapbooking room organized along with my scrapbooks. I’m looking forward to finally getting my mojo back so I can start scrapbooking again.

Here is just a list of some of my goals for the up coming year:

1) Disney albums from 2005 & 2006
2) All the mini album projects that I already put together and just need to add pictures
3) Wilcox & Eclipse volleyball albums

Next weekend is my first open gym for boys along with my first practice for my club team. I need to get myself ready for this club season. I’m hoping if I do some research ahead of time, I can be better prepared to get my girls ready.

Today was a very relaxing day for both me and Gary. Sunday is all about football for Gary. As for me, I baked cookies just so I could free up some space in my freezer. I did play walleyball this morning so at least I got some what of exercise in.

So, here’s to another relaxing week at home.

Updates so far 2007…Goals for 2008

I’ve been trying to update my new website vbscrapper.com, but it’s alot harder to do updates, so I’m going to see about just updating this site instead. We’ll see how long this lasts.

So, updates so far for this year:
1) I’m still coaching girl’s volleyball at Wilcox. I also coached boy’s for the first time this year. Boys are definitely easier than girls. They don’t cry when you yell at them.
2) During the boy’s season, I also coached a club volleyball team with Eclipse Volleyball Club. This was my first time coaching my niece. It was a little challenging at times trying to balance everything, but it worked.
3) I recently got promoted at Stanford to Finance and Operations Manager. This really is my dream job as long as I can actually do this job instead of the numerous other ones. I have one more position to fill before I can actually return to doing just my job. I’m looking forward to it.
4) I joined Weight Watchers again. I’m still down from my highest weight of 181 2 years ago. My goal now is to get down to 150. So we’ll see what happens. I am really movtivated now because of Gary. For the past 3 months, he lost 40 pounds. He works out faithfully daily and watches what he eats. He looks really good now. By losing this weight, I believe he’s feeling better about himself as well.
5) I finally finished our wedding scrapbook album.
6) I participated in my first holiday festival for “Pomroy’s Homemade Cards”. I had to create different types of holiday cards which I sold for $2.00 each. Once everything was done, I made about $210. Not bad for my first year.
7) I took off the entire week of Thanksgiving to work on holiday cards. On Monday, I worked 13 hours straight to get the family cards done. I got to mail them out on time so people will receive them the weekend after Thanksgiving. This was a great accomplishment for me.

Goals for 2008
1) I want to get down to 150.
2) I want to get my scrapbooking goals recorded properly. This will allow me the opportunity to do pages without having to think too much on what I should do.
3) I want to work on spending more quality time with Gary especially doing my crazy volleyball season.
4) I want to get a handle on my position at Stanford. By handle, I mean, I want to be able to do my job without having to ask for assistance on the day to day activities. I basically want to become a master of my job.
5) I want to get my Disney albums done. This includes our trip from 2005 & 2006. If I use sketches, this should make this process faster and easier to do.
6) I want to use up my scrapbooking supplies without having to purchase anything new except adhesives and cardstock. This will allow me to save a lot of money.
7) I want to keep an journal on-line to allow me to record what happens during my year. Either this website or vbscrapper.com.

Let’s see how well we finish 2007.

Malina made the Freshman VB Team!!!!

Malina has been working since June with her high school volleyball team. Conditioning for the month of June. And than ball handling for the month of July. Try outs started on August 1. When I spoke to her about it, she said she did okay, but her serving needed some work. Then the 2nd day of tryouts August 2 came. I didn’t receive my call, so I was wondering what was going on. Then around 8:15 last night, my mom calls to tell me to come over now because it’s not good news. So, driving faster than I probably should, I get to my Mom’s in about 10 minutes. I walk in and the first thing I see is Malina and her eyes are completely red. I could tell that she’s been crying. No one has to tell me, I already know. She didn’t make the team.

Being the aunty and a coach, I tried to reason with her and comfort her at the same time. I decided to talk to her alone in another room. This way, she could be honest with me on how she feels without worrying about the other people around. So, while we’re sitting there talking, I hear my mom scream bloody murder. Apparently, there was a mistake. The Varsity volleyball coach, Coach Bob, has been trying to reach Marge, Malina’s mom, since 6:15. Grant it, its about 9 now. Apparently, all day Marge was having issues with her cell phone.

When Coach Bob verified the list after the tryouts and noticed Malina’s name wasn’t on it for the Freshman team, he wanted to fix the mistake. So, he left a couple of messages on Marge’s phone which we heard and he apologizes that her name wasn’t called. Marge finally calls him back and he confirms that she is definitely on the Freshman team. She was originally trying out for the JV team, but she would end up being a benchwarmer. Going down to the Freshman team, she will actually be starting in games instead of watching them.

So, yesterday was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone. We went from one end of the spectrum to the other in a matter of seconds. Everyone in the house last night could feel the emotion of relief after the confirmation from Coach Bob.

So, now being the aunty and a coach, I need to find time to be both so I can be supportive. I’m so happy for Malina. She really earned this spot. I can just imagine the type of player she’s going to be when she’s a Senior.
