Yes, I am alive. Life is a bit crazy right now, but hopefully I can post pictures and update everyone on what’s been going on. Until then, stay out of trouble. =)
Malina has been working since June with her high school volleyball team. Conditioning for the month of June. And than ball handling for the month of July. Try outs started on August 1. When I spoke to her about it, she said she did okay, but her serving needed some work. Then the 2nd day of tryouts August 2 came. I didn’t receive my call, so I was wondering what was going on. Then around 8:15 last night, my mom calls to tell me to come over now because it’s not good news. So, driving faster than I probably should, I get to my Mom’s in about 10 minutes. I walk in and the first thing I see is Malina and her eyes are completely red. I could tell that she’s been crying. No one has to tell me, I already know. She didn’t make the team.
Being the aunty and a coach, I tried to reason with her and comfort her at the same time. I decided to talk to her alone in another room. This way, she could be honest with me on how she feels without worrying about the other people around. So, while we’re sitting there talking, I hear my mom scream bloody murder. Apparently, there was a mistake. The Varsity volleyball coach, Coach Bob, has been trying to reach Marge, Malina’s mom, since 6:15. Grant it, its about 9 now. Apparently, all day Marge was having issues with her cell phone.
When Coach Bob verified the list after the tryouts and noticed Malina’s name wasn’t on it for the Freshman team, he wanted to fix the mistake. So, he left a couple of messages on Marge’s phone which we heard and he apologizes that her name wasn’t called. Marge finally calls him back and he confirms that she is definitely on the Freshman team. She was originally trying out for the JV team, but she would end up being a benchwarmer. Going down to the Freshman team, she will actually be starting in games instead of watching them.
So, yesterday was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone. We went from one end of the spectrum to the other in a matter of seconds. Everyone in the house last night could feel the emotion of relief after the confirmation from Coach Bob.
So, now being the aunty and a coach, I need to find time to be both so I can be supportive. I’m so happy for Malina. She really earned this spot. I can just imagine the type of player she’s going to be when she’s a Senior.
In May, Gary and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary. We went to celebrate at Disneyland especially since they were celebrating their 50th. It was a perfect time to go to see everything. Here are some of my favorite pictures:
Here is the one picture I wanted for our traditional annviersary picture:
That’s us with Mickey. When we walked into the room and I saw this particular Mickey, I was so happy. The last time we went to Disneyland we got the Mickey dressed up like Steamboat Mickey. So, it was just our luck that we walked into the right door. 🙂
Since I got a new camera, I was determine to take some great shoots of the fireworks show over the castle. After about 200 pictures, I did get a couple worth saving. 🙂 Here is just one of those shots:
So, that’s the summary version of our Disney trip in May. I took over 1700 pictures. It’s amazing how many you take when you have a digital camera. I can’t wait to actually start working on my scrapbook for both Disney trips. Wait, I probably should start working on my wedding album first. 🙂 At least I know I have different scrapbooking projects to keep me busy until our next great adventure. 🙂
So, I just joined the bandwagon and have a real blog. I’ve been posting on yahoo 360, but realized that not everyone had a yahoo account. This way, I can keep in touch with everyone easier. So, wish me luck in my new adventure.
