Movie Review

We watched a lot of movies this break.

First movie: The fourth addition of the Bring It On Movies: Bring It On: In It to Win It.
REVIEW: Okay, this movie was a total teenie bopper movie. I’m glad that I watched it while I was baking so I didn’t just sit there wasting my time.

Second Movie: Nanny Diaries

REVIEW: Was an okay movie. I would watch it again if it was on tv.

Third Movie: Balls of Fury

REVIEW: Don’t waste your money. I thought it would be something like Dodgeball, but to me it was nothing like it.

Forth Movie: Waitress

REVIEW: Was an okay movie. It definitely was not a typical chick-flick movie. I thought it was supposed to be some what of a comedy, but it wasn’t. I was overall disappointed. The best part of this movie was a line said by the cook when he was asked if he is happy: “Happy enough. I don’t expect much. I don’t get much, I don’t give much. I generally enjoy whatever comes along.”

Fifth Movie: The Simpsons
(I originally got this movie to take to Mom’s for Christmas, but forgot it on the kitchen table. Gary and I endedup watching when we got back from Mom’s instead. I did fall asleep during some parts.)

REVIEW: What I’ve seen of the movie, it was pretty good. I didn’t realize that the movie was going to actually have a plot, but it did.

Sixth Movie: Next

REVIEW: Awesome movie. Definitely going to add to the collection. I’m not sure why this movie wasn’t really publised as much as Nicolas Cage’s other movies, but it should have been. You need to pay attention to the entire movie to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Seventh Movie: Disturbia

REVIEW: Good movie. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.

Christmas wrap up…

This past Christmas had its challenges, but turned out to be a good one. We went to Gary’s parents house for Christmas Eve. My mother in law had me, so she got me a $40 gift certificate for Michael’s, which was awesome. My brother in law, Brad, had Gary. He gave him iTunes gift cards, which was perfect especially since Gary uses his iPod for work.

The other gift that Gary received from Brad and Gary’s sister, Kim, was a 1995 Ford Tarus. The car originally belonged to Gary’s parents, but they gave it to Kimo years ago. Kim recently just got a new car, so they decided to give the Tarus to Gary. Overall, the body of the car is still in good condition, but the engine is turning into more than we expected. So far, we’ve already spent $950. This includes the cost to transfer the car into Gary’s name and the smog, which it passed. When we were at the gas station doing the smog check, the car was still leaking even though we just picked it up from Scott’s, our mechanic. So, we decided to take the car back to Scott’s to try to figure out why the car is still leaking. Hopefully, Scott will be able to figure out what’s wrong with it.

So, back to Christmas. I did receive a lot of stuff, which of course I purchased myself, but made Gary wrap it for me. But Gary totally surprised me once again with my actual presents from him. Yes, I said PRESENTS.

My first present was one of the Tiffany rings I had on my wish list.

He had to special order this ring because they didn’t have my size. It was great because he actually kept in touch with the store because he was waiting for it to arrive. He ended up going on the 24th to pick it up. The funny thing is he actually received help by the man that originally helped me when I went into the store to pick the ring out and the proper size.

So, here is my second present (which was a total suprise):

He had this gift wrapped with an actual weight to throw off what was in it. When I opened the box and saw another teal bag, I couldn’t believe it. I had no idea what it could be. To my amazement, he purchased the other ring on my list as well. His reason: “I deserved it.” Can you believe that one? I totally don’t think I deserve it, but I do appreciate that this is the time of year that he loves to really spoil me.

Overall, Christmas break has been very productive. We survived the Christmas holiday. The day after Christmas, I started organizing the kitchen cabinets. It literally took me a day and half, but they are officially organized. I did get rid of a lot of stuff that I knew we hadn’t used in years. Plus, I consolidated stuff so we only have to go to one shelf to find what we need. It felt so good once everything was done, including the yearly paperwork.

On Thursday, Gary and I cleaned out the garage. Now, that adventure only took us a couple hours. But, those hours were really needed to get control of the garage again. Since I’ve been watching a lot more organizational shows like Clean House and Clean Sweep I’m more comfortable about cleaning out our clutter. To make sure we didn’t just push the junk to another place in the garage, I carried everything to the truck. This forced us to drive down to Goodwill to donate everything. It feels so good to give without asking for something in return.

So, the two major projects for the break are officially done. It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you just get off your butt to do it.

Scrapbooking Projects to Try

I’ve been trying to be a little more proactive in my scrapbooking projects. Since I’m such a list person, I figured if I write it down, I’ll eventually do it. One of my goals for 2008 is to scrapbook more. I’m hoping by writing all the projects down in one place, I’ll be a little more organized and ready when I’m going to sit down to scrapbook.

So, I came across this chrismas planner. It looks easy enough. So, I’m going to work on it and see what happens. If it turns out to be easy, then I’m going to do a couple for people for next christmas.

The other day when I was at home, I was watching DIY and saw a project I know that I can do. It’s an activity book for kids. I think this is something that I can eventually learn and than turn around and show Maureen.

These are just 2 projects. I also went through one of my stacks of photos to get a reminder of what I already have printed. I’m hoping to get through these pictures, so I can justify ordering more. I want to concentrate on what I have so I can try to save some money. I guess we’ll see what happens.

ETA: I found another project I would like to try for Christmas. It’s a twist for an advent calendar. The project was introduced to me by Scrappers Challenge group that I’m a part of. The project can be found at Crafters message boards.

End of the Week…

I can’t believe that it’s already Thursday. I finally finished decorating the christmas trees last night. As soon as I take pictures, I’ll post pictures. I got a new tree this year too. This one is just for the many mini beanie baby ornaments that I’ve been collecting over the years. So, now I have a tree in the family room as well. It’s so cute. I’m just waiting to get pictures of Abu under it so I can make a scrapbook page of him under both trees.

The only thing left to do is my christmas town. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to do it this year. This is going to be my project for this weekend in between visiting Gary’s cousins who are visiting from Utah and practice on Sunday.

Work has been productive this week. It’s amazing how much work you can get done when you shut the door and just concentrate on accomplishing something. I finally updated a grant’s spreadsheet that took me 2 days to complete. I feel so much better that I have a true understanding on what’s going on with it. Now, I only have to update about 15 more grants and I’ll be all ready to move forward with actually reading every grant to understand what can and can not be used on each one.

I finally hired Fortune’s replacement. Latoya King. She’s awesome. She’s picked up everything that I’ve given her. She’s so helpful. I’m hoping she’ll help me stay updated on everything especially with my filing. I look forward to seeing what happens.

Well, here’s to the end of another week.

My first practice was today

I had my first practice for club today. After finally seeing all the girls as one team today, I really believe we are going to have a strong team this year. Practice was 3 hours from 12-3. The first hour was conditioning and a little ball control drills. For the last 30 minutes, we actually did team work stuff. I’m looking forward to this season.

On the other courts was the 18s team and then the boy’s. For the boys, I was actually surprised how many players showed up. For the future open gyms, I’m going to have to try to spend some time with them. If it wasn’t for Rebbeca, it would have been stressful.

CKU-Provo August 7-9 2008

As everyone knows, I’m a total scrapbooking freak. I really enjoy this hobby. One of the major scrapbooking agencies, Creative Keepsakes, has a scrapbooking conference that I’ve participated in 2 times when it was in San Jose in 2004 & 2006. Apparently, they are only doing 3 events this year and one of them is Provo Utah. Provo is the headquarters for Creative Keepsakes, so this is the event that is very popular.

This past weekend, I made the decision that I’m going to go to this event. Logsitically, it’s going to be expensive because I have to fly there, rent a car and a hotel room. Apparently, the hotel rooms at the conference location is already sold out, so I’ll be staying at a smaller place 2 miles down the road. I was thinking about rooming with someone that has a room already booked, but I rather not share a room with a total stranger.

Because of the expense, I’m going to start saving up now. I’m guessing that with all of the logistics along with the cost for the conference, it’s going to be $1000. I know this is a lot of money, believe me. But, if I make some changes now, I’ll be able to save up the money. By telling myself that I need to save the money, will hopefully get me not to spend money between now and then on stuff that I really don’t need. One of my scrapbooking goals is to use up what I have. I believe that it’s okay to use items that are considered old because my family doesn’t realize it’s old products.

I am planning on going to Provo alone since Gary’s not sure if he wants to go yet. Since I’m going to be in my conference all day for 3 days, he’ll end up doing a lot of stuff alone, which is going to drive me crazy especially since I know that I would love to be with him seeing everything.

I joined the yahoo group so hopefully I’ll meet some new friends that I can talk to so I’m not completely alone especially during the crop times. I know I can make friends, but sometimes, I rather not be the fifth wheel.

Registration is on April 18th. We’ll know by then if I’m in or not. If I don’t get in, then I’ll have some extra money to spend on something else. 🙂

My first club practice & a day in SF

So, tomorrow is my first club practice. I’m excited, but nervous. I really want to become a better coach. I want to be able to teach my players how to be a better player along with a better person. The plan is to meet everyone along with their parents tomorrow. So, tonight, I need to plan out my practice so it at least it appears that I know what I’m doing. 🙂

Today Gary and I went up to the City to walk around and enjoy the decorations. We ended up spending the entire day there and didn’t spend a lot of money. I did get a chance to finally see the 6 houses lined up with the City in the background. These houses can be seen on Full House along with some other SF shows. I was so excited to finally get to see them. I’m glad that Gary actually remembered where they were located.

Speaking of Gary, I’m so lucky to have him. Even though we do have our ‘special’ moments when we are frustrated with each other, all of the other time is wonderful. Today’s activities was fun. Besides taking pictures of the Christmas tree at Pier 39, I really wanted to take a picture of the tree at Union Square as well. Because of the timing (it gets darker earlier now), I wasn’t sure if we could be able to go to Union Square via taxi so I told Gary that we can just drive by it and I’ll take my picture from the car window. Instead, Gary decided that we would have more than enough time so we went to Union Square just so I can take my picture. 🙂 Once we got there, I wanted to go to Chinatown to get pastries. So, we ended up walking the blocks and got my pastries. Everything I wanted to do today up in the City, we did. It was awesome. I love these days.

Oh, before I forget, if you watched Journeyman this past week, you will notice that the house is right next door to the Charmed house. I knew when I saw it, that it looked familiar. I know what a side note, but I thought I should put it down so I don’t forget. 🙂

Back to Work…

So, today is my final day of vacation. This week went by fast. I did accomplish a lot of things on my list for this past week, the major thing being my holiday cards. They are all mailed out as of Thursday. I also finally got my scrapbooking room organized along with my scrapbooks. I’m looking forward to finally getting my mojo back so I can start scrapbooking again.

Here is just a list of some of my goals for the up coming year:

1) Disney albums from 2005 & 2006
2) All the mini album projects that I already put together and just need to add pictures
3) Wilcox & Eclipse volleyball albums

Next weekend is my first open gym for boys along with my first practice for my club team. I need to get myself ready for this club season. I’m hoping if I do some research ahead of time, I can be better prepared to get my girls ready.

Today was a very relaxing day for both me and Gary. Sunday is all about football for Gary. As for me, I baked cookies just so I could free up some space in my freezer. I did play walleyball this morning so at least I got some what of exercise in.

So, here’s to another relaxing week at home.

Updates so far 2007…Goals for 2008

I’ve been trying to update my new website vbscrapper.com, but it’s alot harder to do updates, so I’m going to see about just updating this site instead. We’ll see how long this lasts.

So, updates so far for this year:
1) I’m still coaching girl’s volleyball at Wilcox. I also coached boy’s for the first time this year. Boys are definitely easier than girls. They don’t cry when you yell at them.
2) During the boy’s season, I also coached a club volleyball team with Eclipse Volleyball Club. This was my first time coaching my niece. It was a little challenging at times trying to balance everything, but it worked.
3) I recently got promoted at Stanford to Finance and Operations Manager. This really is my dream job as long as I can actually do this job instead of the numerous other ones. I have one more position to fill before I can actually return to doing just my job. I’m looking forward to it.
4) I joined Weight Watchers again. I’m still down from my highest weight of 181 2 years ago. My goal now is to get down to 150. So we’ll see what happens. I am really movtivated now because of Gary. For the past 3 months, he lost 40 pounds. He works out faithfully daily and watches what he eats. He looks really good now. By losing this weight, I believe he’s feeling better about himself as well.
5) I finally finished our wedding scrapbook album.
6) I participated in my first holiday festival for “Pomroy’s Homemade Cards”. I had to create different types of holiday cards which I sold for $2.00 each. Once everything was done, I made about $210. Not bad for my first year.
7) I took off the entire week of Thanksgiving to work on holiday cards. On Monday, I worked 13 hours straight to get the family cards done. I got to mail them out on time so people will receive them the weekend after Thanksgiving. This was a great accomplishment for me.

Goals for 2008
1) I want to get down to 150.
2) I want to get my scrapbooking goals recorded properly. This will allow me the opportunity to do pages without having to think too much on what I should do.
3) I want to work on spending more quality time with Gary especially doing my crazy volleyball season.
4) I want to get a handle on my position at Stanford. By handle, I mean, I want to be able to do my job without having to ask for assistance on the day to day activities. I basically want to become a master of my job.
5) I want to get my Disney albums done. This includes our trip from 2005 & 2006. If I use sketches, this should make this process faster and easier to do.
6) I want to use up my scrapbooking supplies without having to purchase anything new except adhesives and cardstock. This will allow me to save a lot of money.
7) I want to keep an journal on-line to allow me to record what happens during my year. Either this website or vbscrapper.com.

Let’s see how well we finish 2007.
